Tags – Leicester attractions for students
Leicester is an excellent choice for ambitious students embarking upon the next stage of their education.
But, it doesn’t stop there. It’s also a city that’s full of life, energy and fun.
So, here are just some of our favourite things to do if you’re considering studying at one of Leicester’s universities or you’ve already arrived and want a taste of local life.
1. Grab Some Culture
Enjoy a different take on theatre life with a visit to the eponymously named Curve Theatre.
There isn’t a traditional backstage, so you can see actors behind the scenes as part of a truly immersive theatre experience. The Curve doesn’t just offer theatre productions, but also workshops, comedy performances, and much more.
2. Hit The Shops
From chain-stores at The Highcross Shopping Centre to independent stores in and around Silver Street, The Lanes, and Cank Street there’s plenty of retail therapy to be had in the city centre.
Don’t forget to stock up on your five-a-day at Leicester’s 700-year-old market. It’s the biggest outdoor covered market in Europe and well worth a visit.
3. Get Some Space
Head to the UK’s biggest domed planetarium, the National Space Centre.
At this award-winning hot spot, you can travel to the edge of the universe, check out the centre’s six galleries, and gaze at the 42m high Rocket Tower.
You can also take a tour into Space and follow in the footsteps of famous astronauts including Buzz Aldrin.
4. The Big Night Out
Leicester’s nightlife is definitely not to be sniffed at.
There’s virtually a club that caters to every taste.
For indie fans, Mosh is the place to go. This three-tier homage to indie and alt music is the perfect place to enjoy live events and club nights.
Or, if you prefer gentler, smaller-scale nightlife, try The Cookie. By day you can grab a coffee and play some board games, and belly laugh at one of their comedy evenings by night.
For pre-club drinks, there are dozens of bars to choose from aside from the Uni bars. Most notably, The Queen of Bradgate with its ping pong tables, The Bottle Garden and The Pi Bar.
5. Live Music
Leicester has a thriving music scene.
From smaller indie venues such as The Shed, The Soundhouse and The Musician to the city’s largest venue, De Montfort Hall, Leicester offers something for everyone when it comes to live music.
6. Clear The Cobwebs
Whether you’re stuck writing an incredibly challenging essay or recovering from a big night out, clear your head with a leg stretch at Abbey Park.
Divided by the River Soar, you can wander through the park’s sensory garden, lavender maze and Abbey grounds.
Alternatively, join an organised Mindfulness Walk to reduce your stress levels and re-energise to meet that looming essay deadline.
Round-Up
All in all, Leicester is full of things to do if you’re a student here.
You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a varied and fun life in this friendly and welcoming city.
With so much to see, do, and experience, there’s truly something to suit everyone’s tastes.
